Move MS Documents = Crash on start

Post by Phil Pendlebury » Mon Aug 25, 2014 4:27 pm

Just FYI:

I am moving some stuff to ONEDRIVE. I moved my entire Macro Shceduler (scripts) folder to the new place.

MS will not start, in fact it crashes with very little info about why it crashed. then on subsequent runs it has created a file named what the folder used to be named... Confusing when one tries to recreate the old folder name in order to let MS start. As Windows says the folder exists but of course it doesn't it is just a file.

After some time I was able to figure out why but it took a lot of work to actually move everything.

Anyway I am sure this is not a priority and probably makes little sense but please just try moving your MS documents folder - Start MS and see what happens.

If you want to move it use the option under Tools/Options. At the bottom.

If you just move the folder, you just move the folder - but Macro Scheduler will still look in the old location - the location is stored in the registry - it has to know where to look somehow!. So moving the folder without changing that setting will break things. Hence the option under Tools/Options to do it for you.

Hi Marcus,

Yes I understand that but the point really was that MS fully crashes when the folder has been moved (albeit not as you intended it to be).

So maybe a message: "Cannot find ini file - please locate it or create a new one" (or a more appropriate message) rather than just a crash.

:) :) :)
