Arrow Button in Dialog Designer

Post by armsys » Mon May 19, 2008 9:03 am

Just out of curiosity. What's purpose of the white arrow in the grey button? It appears on both Objects and More pages. It doesn't show any hint like other buttons.

It moves from insertion to selection mode. Let me explain - if you click on an object toolbar it is selected and when you next click on the dialog that object is placed on the dialog. Suppose you click on an object and then change your mind. Say you want to move an existing object. If you were to click on the dialog a new object will be placed on it. Not what you want. So instead, click on the white arrow. This moves you out of object placing mode and back to select mode. You can now click on an existing object, or on the dialog, without placing a new object on it.

Your explanation makes a lot of sense. Sorry for asking the question but it wasn't explained in the online manual. Thanks a lot.
BTW, it would be nice to add "Select" as a guiding tip.
