Suggestions for the Online Help Enhancement

Post by armsys » Sun Apr 27, 2008 3:29 am

This thread is inspired by jpuziano's comment in http://www.mjtnet.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 6&start=15.
The following areas may have room for improvement:
1. Mention of vbscript.dll, msscript.ocx, and scrrun.dll discovered by grimeball and seconded by jpuziano.
2. The Complex Expression needs some samples.
3. The dialog, an important user-friendly feature of MS, should include more sample script and screenshots.
4. The support of embedded complex expressoin in Wait> (see http://www.mjtnet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4616) was never mentioned in the current manual.

Just my 2 cents.

1. Will add to the VBScript topics. Bear in mind that almost all new Windows installations have these files already. Any problem like this should be extremely rare.

2. See the topic "Complex Expression Examples". But agree more would be nice.

3. A more detailed reference on custom dialogs has been planned for a while now. We're working on it.

4. Right at the top of the main "Complex Expressions" topic it says:
Complex expressions are supported in Macro Scheduler's IF statements and LET statement, and since version 9.0 can now also be included within all other commands and function calls in the place of regular variables.
Emphasis mine.

Did you know we are now offering affordable monthly subscriptions for Macro Scheduler Standard?

Its great to see positive reaction to the above items... especially that #3 is being worked on. More examples in the Help File to show various dialog techniques and tips would really help.

For instance, line drawing in dialogs isn't available but JRL's example of using Progress Bars to accomplish the same thing is very useful:

http://www.mjtnet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4333

There are many such tips throughout these forums. To have them all documented in one place would certainly be welcome.

Thanks armsys for calling attention to documentation issues like these and thanks Marcus for working on them.

Take care
jpuziano

Note: If anyone else on the planet would find the following useful...
[Open] PlayWav command that plays from embedded script data
...then please add your thoughts/support at the above post - :-)
