Transfer installation setting groups

I am installing MS on a new PC and want to transfer all of my scripts and the groups they are in. They are currently in a subfolder of My Documents.

There is nothing I can find in the help file about this, only how to add new groups and set the default for the new group.

I have searched on this site and it says to modify a setting in the registry, which does not seem to be in my registry. There is no data directory entry in my registry; however, there is a "default" so I tried placing the path in that with no sucess.

This should be simple, and I am missing it.

If there is no data path configured then your installation is using the program folder. This is fine if you are an administrator and not using Vista with UAC enabled. If you plan to upgrade to Vista I would strongly recommend a complete reinstall after installing Vista and do NOT try to copy everything over.

All the group info is stored in groups.dat and groups.ini. All the macro settings are stored in macros.dat

That was not what I was looking for, what I did was add the line to the registry that was suggested. I would have thought it would have been there and I just would have needed to put in the correct path.

This is something you may want to put in future versions. As most people don't want to edit the registry to change a path.

Not sure what you mean. I don't recommend changing the registry at all.

If you did not have that entry in the registry it means you first installed Macro Scheduler some years ago before there was such thing as a data path. In the old days it just used the program folder. So legacy versions didn't have that path. To stop your installs breaking when you update/upgrade that config continues to be used. However, it would only do that if you are ad admin. Non admins can't write to the prog folder, so the install would create a new folder and set the path in the registry.

Anyone installing _afresh_ since version 8 (released Jan 06) WILL have that registry entry and the Macro Scheduler data location will be My Documents/Macro Scheduler and the registry entry will point to there.

My recommendation is to do a fresh install. If you ever upgrade to Vista then you really MUST do this.

So, regarding your recommendation - you're two years out of date The fact you did not have data path in registry means you're a legacy user running as admin. This "problem" does not exist for new users since 2 years ago.
