Compiled .exe changing to .upx by itself?

Post by alan1mtnview » Tue Jan 29, 2008 4:06 am

Hi, All.
Odd occurrence, but it's happened a couple times now. I'm compiling an exe and dropping it in the domain controller's netlogon folder, where it will change extension to upx some time later all by itself. It only changes once, and if I change it back to exe, it will remain that way.
The code is just a basic vbscript creating desktop shortcuts with custom icons, and I compile it with the options of "Compile Includes", and /HIDE and /NOSYSTRAY. I'm on 10.017. I learned what upx was when I looked it up on the forum here, but I'm still at a loss to explain this.
If this is a practical joke, I'll hold a gun to the responsible party's head and force them to apologize to everyone here.
Thanks,
Alan

Are you using Symantec Corp AV? I have had some similiar issues when compiling with SAV 10. I have a specific folder excluded from SAV AutoProtect and that is where I create my compiles.

Nope, McAfee ePolicy. It hasn't happened the last couple times I've pushed an update to the exe, but it still bugs me. Thanks for the reply.
Thanks,
Alan
