Hot Keys

Post by mraftary » Wed Mar 15, 2006 10:11 pm

How about greying out currently used "Hot Keys" in the drop down window so that a user can tell which keys are already in use.

Hi mraftary,

I agreed and second you on this one. I'd posted a similar idea last year,
here's a link to the post: When assigning a Hot Key, show which are already taken

When assigning a Hot Key to a macro, you have to actually pick one and click OK before it tells you that Hot Key is already assigned. Then you try again, that one taken as well... try again... etc.

To get a list of what's taken, you could go to the main Macro Scheduler window under "All Macros" and sort on the "HotKey" column but if you have lots of Hot Keys assigned, its still tedious just to find a free one.

If possible, how about "greying out" combinations that are already assigned right in the dropdowns where you assign the Hot Key? That way, users could see at a glance what is still available.

This has been added in next release. Hot key lists no longer contain already assigned hot keys.

Hi Marcus,

There had been a reply to this (see above) but I don't think it was implemented. Is this still on the "Wish List"?

Thanks

When assigning a Hot Key, show which are already taken

Hi Gang:

After checking (just installed ver. 8.0) I see that this issue has been addressed. Outstanding!

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Marcus,

I am running Macro Scheduler Pro 8.0.1

When I go in to assign a new hotkey to a macro, ALL of the hotkeys still appear in the dropdown even though most of them are already assigned to other macros. None of them look greyed-out.

Was this feature implemented or was it implemented in some other way/place???

Hi Marcus,

No answer yet so I'm still wondering, was this implemented?

I'm using the newest version yet none of the assigned hotkeys are greyed out for me, all of them *always* appear in the dropdown list when assigning a hotkey... even the ones already assigned.

Is this feature working for anyone out there?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay.

In the beta the used hotkeys were removed from the drop downs, but this caused other problems with the way the hotkeys were assigned. These problems weren't noticed until after 8.0 was released, so we needed to sort it quickly. So in 8.0.1 we simply reverted back to listing them as it was the safest solution at the time. So it's back on the list to find a solution that works without knock-on effects! It would be nice to actually grey them out, but that would require a new combox box object entirely, as that can't be done with the standard Windows combo box. Frankly there are other more important things to worry about right now, but, it is on the list!

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for the reply. I thought something like that had happened... just wanted to confirm it with you. No rush, it can wait on the wish list until other more important things are sorted out.

Great job on the blog by the way. It seems to be the place to go to keep up with the latest developments with Macro Scheduler. In-depth articles explaining how to get things done are always appreciated (and no doubt will get linked to). Keep up the great work.
