Image Compare tool

Post by Jerry Thomas » Wed Sep 04, 2013 3:44 pm

I have an app that I wanted to share. Probably not that usefull as is, but there may be pieces that people can reuse.

We (OMAX Corp.) build Waterjet cutting machines (50K-60K PSI water and garnet stream that will cut steel, glass, stone, fingers, etc.).
When we change the software that controls the cutting speed, angle etc. we use screen previews to verify a lot of the functionality.

I have scripts to generate OldImages and NewImages, but, I couldn't find a good application for walking through 2 directories of matching images allowing me to visually compare them. So the solution was to write my own app.

As the images show, this app supports:
- Side by side images
- 1 image in front of the other with Toggle ability
- Step through pairs of images 1 by 1 (Next & Previous)
- Jump to specified number or select a file name to jump to
- Display Settings string to see what options were enabled
- Change Image height to support different screen sizes (useful if screen used to capture the original images is different aspect ratio)

Here is a link to the code rather than paste the whole thing
(Make sure to get the entire string!
When I added the URL tags, Preview showed a blank screen???)

Thanks for sharing, Jerry.

That demonstrates the power of the new image recognition functionality perfectly.

Actually this isn't using the any image recognition - just eyeballs.
We just needed a better way to compare the images.
Thanks,
Jerry
