MS locks up on Start

Post by Jerry Thomas » Mon Oct 04, 2010 3:18 pm

I have had an eval copy for just over a week and have had no issues like this.

This morning when I turned my machine on and started MS, it locks up.

I see the "Trial days remaining" dialog (22 days).
The icon shows in the Notification area.
When I right click the icon and select Show, the Scheduler and the News Feed open.

The News Feed never gets focus. I can't select it to dismiss it, and I can't select the scheduler behind it.

Help!
Thanks,
Jerry

Sounds like the news feed is hanging trying to connect. Let's disable it.

1. Kill the process from task scheduler if you can't stop it otherwise.
2. Run regedit.exe (Start/Run - Regedit)
3. Locate this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MJTNET\MSched12
4. Modify the "RSSOnStartup" entry, setting it to 0:

RSSOnStartup = 0

To do this double click on RSSOnStartup change the value to 0 (zero) and then hit Ok.

5. Restart Macro Scheduler. Now the RSS feed will not open.

It's possible your antispyware/antivirus software is blocking Macro Scheduler from connecting. It should timeout rather than lock you up though! But the above will stop it trying to connect on startup at all.

Did you know we are now offering affordable monthly subscriptions for Macro Scheduler Standard?

There was no 'RSS' key so I added one and set to 0.
It worked as you thought it would.

You may want to include "Edit / New / String value" to the instructions for people that aren't used to tweaking the registry.

Many thanks for the fast response!
Thanks,
Jerry
