system speaker

Post by TommyJ » Thu Oct 09, 2003 2:17 pm

I'm on a tightly locked-down pc at work that won't let me change the date/time, install programs, etc... I think they use Novell Netware

I don't think any of that matters for this, but there it is anyway.

How do I disable the system speaker so my pc doesn't make noise when invalid keystrokes are passed?

Isn't it that you can disable/mute the volume of synth sounds at your volume control panel :?:

i don't see any such setting in the control panel... most sounds in my control panel are missing the associated chord.wav file too.

Taken from: 5548 » How do I disable Windows 2000 or Windows XP system beeps?

To prevent Windows 2000 or Windows XP from issuing a system beep:

1. Copy / Paste the following into a silence.reg file:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound]
"Beep"="no"

2. Merge the silence.reg file with the user's registry.

NOTE: You must log off and log on for the setting to take effect.
