Great Feature

Post by kpassaur » Tue Nov 25, 2008 5:11 pm

I'm one person that will be looking forward to it.

I'm sure it is not easy; I wouldn't know where to even begin. I do think though that it makes MS more appealing to those like me who have numerous scripts and want to easily transfer them from one machine to another.

From my other posts this week you could see the difficulty with it that I had and with this method there never would be. Unless like Bob pointed out an issue with the users hard drive.

Until Marcus can do his magic, and for other programs that will need this:

I just download a free utility, MetaChanger, from http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/M ... 49327.html
The file from the Home Page ( http://meta-changer.tilti-systems-ltd.qarchive.org ) was no good, needed to find another download site.

It allows you to modify those file properties in a batch. New to me, so I can't really recommend it yet, but just bring it to your attention. It might be acceptable to you for your needs.

My first impression is that it is awkward to work with. No Help available, must work out tools yourself. Not an Explorer context menu tool. Need to browse for files withing its own window, but can select multiple files in same folder.

It also identifies some properties as unique to Office only, but does allow to add/edit/delete Title/Subject/Author/Keywords/Comments.

No access to Date properties or Hidden/ReadOnly/System/Archive bits.

You can create up to three profiles of information to help mass update files with common values.

My first tests ........
I modified some Macro Scheduler script files on an NTFS drive. Then, dragging and dropping, I copied those files to a FAT drive. I got a warning message warning that Summary information might be lost. And sure enough, it was lost.

Good luck.....

PS for Marcus. The link I posted above http://users.telenet.be/ws36637/properties.html does seem to provide some coding necessary to use these features.
Hope this was helpful..................good luck,
Bob

Thanks Bob I will look into it.

Here is one in return that you may find useful it is free, command line driven making it execellent for MS, but it only handles image files, making it great for photos.

I use it to read header information on Tiff Images.

We have now implemented this - when you edit a file the summary detail attributes (author, title, subject, keywords and comments) are read and then saved back when the file is saved. Will be in the next beta release, hopefully later today.

Did you know we are now offering affordable monthly subscriptions for Macro Scheduler Standard?

Thanks for the link kpassaur. I will add that to imaging toolbox. From the site I see that this is one of the features:
# Decodes a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma 8)
