Ok I have a new project. I figure it is easier to keep posting in this thread so that I don't clutter the forum.

Ok so my next project is to create a list of all the people and different number stats about them. If a new person is detected it will make a new entry for them along with their stats. However if they are already in the list, it needs to update their stats either by summing two values, or averaging two together.
Then I need to be able to search this "database" and sort it by "most this" or "highest average that".

What is the best way to do this?

It has been suggested that I use Excel and its built in macro abilities. Any thoughts on this? Personally I think excel is overkill. Are there other smaller, more basic database programs?

Actually it would be best to keep separate subjects under their own subject. And this one should probably be under General vs. Technical Scripting, it isn't really a Macro Scheduler item, unless you want to maintain the database in an ASCII file and use Macro Scheduler scripts to manage the database......don't think that would be a good use as you have described your need.

Sounds like Excel or other spreadsheet will probably be best, especially if you already have the software.

But, if you want to get a quick and easy to use database, then an
excellent database,(DOS !), still in use by tens of thousands of users is Q&A 5.0 for DOS, formerly from Symantec. They have sold distribution rights to PCTA.

I use it daily, and I have over 30 clients who use it daily. I support many database applications, but I still recommend this as the fastest and easiest to use. Flat file vs. relational, but has tools to work like relational.

Runs on all Win9x, XP platforms....but may be pricey for you, I think about $300. The Windows version is not recommended. A new product, Sesame, that converts from Q&A will be too complex for what you described now.

I am sure there are some free/shareware databases that can also be recommended........
Hope this was helpful..................good luck,
Bob
