What is the best way to watch for new files to appear on an FTP site and then execute a script. I already have the file(s) downloading form the FTP but I have to launch the script manually. Would like to automate this.

You could have a scrip call FTPGetDirList in a loop. Parse the list to see if there are any new files. Keep looping.
