[Std 9.1.0.2 Trial] Screen locked + "File not found&quo

Post by littlebigman » Wed May 09, 2007 2:17 am

Hello

Since someone recommended MS to automate tasks in Windows, I just gave the trial version a try on an XPSP2 host but... no go :-/

When I click on Record, MS minizes to the icon tray, but I can't click on any running application in the task bar nor can I switch to any of them through ALT-TAB. It's like the screen is frozen.

All I can do, is click on the MS icon, and click on Stop... which triggers a dialog box that says "File not found".

File > Close closes the app without prompting me to save the macro.

"File not found" in the archives didn't return anything interesting. Has someone else seen this, and knows what to do?

Thank you.

FWIW, other macro recorders had a problem on that computers, so I installed MS on another, cleaner XPSP2 host, and it worked fine.

Probably some low-level, difficult to debug issue :-/

It may be a DDE problem. I have a dual core machine that when I double-click a certain file type (xxx.ns1, Network Stumbler (NS) capture "document"), the application opens with the file BUT XP Pro SP2 pops up an error message in the foreground reporting "File not found", or words to that effect. At first I thought it was a problem with my Macro Scheduler script, but I get the same false error when I simply double-click the file.

In my case, clearing DDE (Explorer,Tools,Folder Options,File Types,ns1, , Advanced, open, Edit -- then clear the DDE check box) allows me to run my script only once. I then find that, somehow, NS has caused DDE to again be enabled for that file type, which again breaks my script.

Hope this helps someone. I don't have a solution.

Regards,
EdB
