Cannot record macro

Post by aussiebushguy » Sat Oct 21, 2006 11:14 pm

Hello there. I have downloaded and installed MS 8.1 trialware to its default location, but think I must be doing something wrong when using it.

I can launch MS OK, but when I select "record" and give it a name then press start, whatever I click on (be it an icon, folder, menu command or a link off an internet page, nothing happens.

The mouse pointer moves fine, but its as if windows or IE/firefox just locks up.

When I press ctrl-Alt-s to stop the recording, I get a message saying "invalid filename"

Am I doing something wrong?

I tried to reinstall MSSetup.exe and restart PC but it does the same thing :(

Thankyou for any help.

Peter

Try the following:

1. Uninstall Macro Scheduler.
2. Download the latest evaluation version to be sure you are up to date.
3. Reinstall Macro Scheduler. When the installer asks for the "Data Folder", instead of leaving it blank, choose a folder under your "My Documents" folder, or in your "Application Data" profile.
4. After installation, reboot.

Now try recording again. Any difference?

Thanks for your reply Marcus. I tried what you suggested, but it is still behaving this way :(

FWIW, I have Win XP pro, all SP's applied. The Macros that ship with MS all run ok

But just carnt record anything, the whole PC, exept the mouse just freezes after I press record.

It sounds like maybe a windows file may be missing? Dont seem to have any issues with other programs I have installed.

Thanks Peter

Something else to try. Does it make any difference if you choose a different stop key. i.e. when you record the default key sequence to stop the recording is CTRL-ALT-S. Try changing it to something else. Does that make a difference?

Are you logged on as ad aministrator or a regular user? Have you tried rebooting?

Tried setting the stop record key as Ctrl Alt T, but same thing happens.

This info may help out.... I press record, get the record dialog box up give it a name, press start, then say if on the desktop I double click say IE, as mentiones before nothing happens. The MS ICON in the tray is flashing. Say then I double click another icon on the desktop, say Irfanview, again nothing happens. When I press Ctrl-Alt-T, I get the error message file not found, and the shortcut dialog box pops up for IE and Irfanview

If I open up MS window and press STOP, I get file not found, and the only way I can exit MS at this time is to right click icon in tray and click exit.

There is obviously some files on my pc installed from other programs that are upsetting MS, and it could be any file, lol

I think its best to uninstall it as it may be impossible to work out whats bugging it to make it behave like that.

I have a laptop as well so will try it out on that one, which runs win2K. Will see how that goes.

Cheers Peter
