Macro date and time update without a save

Macro date and time update without a save
If I open Macro Scheduler, select a macro, open it in the editor, select some text, press CTRL+C to copy the text, exit from the editor without going anywhere near the file menu and without having pressed CTRL+S... The date and time on my macro is updated to the current date and time. Also, the date and time are updated when looking in the macro folder using windows explorer. I'm running WinXP Pro and version 7.3.11.3 of Macro Scheduler.
Is there an option I can turn off? I prefer to know when I last updated a macro rather than when I last borrowed some old code.
Could it have something to do with the fact that CTRL+S opens a macro in the editor and is also the shortcut for save? I never use CTRL+S, I always right click and pick editor from the popup menu.
Thanks for listening,
Dick

I just tried opening a macro in macro properties, then opened the editor, then copied some text to the clipboard, then closed the editor and then OKd the macro properties dialog without making any changes. No change to the date. So it seems fine here, unless you're doing something different. Are these the steps you are taking?

I never go to macro properties. I always right click and select "Edit Script".
I don't have to do anything except open in the editor and close and my date is made current 100% of the time. I have installed v8.0 on two computers. One of them is XP the other is 2000. The results are the same on each.

Hi Support,
Same thing is happening for me too. I'm running 8.0 beta 007 on XP SP2.
- Fire up Macro Scheduler
- right click on systray icon, left click on Show
- right click on a macro last touched a month ago, left click on "Edit Script"
- just "look" at macro, nothing else, click "X" to close edit window
- now macro in main window shows today's date/time in "last modified" column

Iagree with JRL. Old problem has returned.
I just followed jpuziano's instructions exactly, using 7.4.009 and could not duplicate the problem.
Upgraded to 8.0.0 and the problem was duplicated as he noted. Last modified date was changed to today's date.

Odd. I'm going to try on a different platform. I do the following:
1. Start Macro Scheduler
2. Right click on a macro
3. Select Edit Script
4. Close the Script Editor
No change to the modified date :-/

Ok, I have now duplicated on 98SE. Not happening on XP PRO however. Most perplexed.

Actually scrap that. I realised I opened a sample macro immediately after installing the evaluation version. This always changes the date because the sample data is incomplete and first time you open and close a sample macro after installing it will resave the data. If I try it with a macro I have created or a sample I have already opened it does not change the date. I must still be missing something.

Thanks to everyone who confirmed the problem.
Just rebooted thinking that might make a difference. It did not.
Did just notice another anomaly. I'm adding it here thinking it might be related. I have lots of groups and sub groups. When viewing the "All Macros" group my macros are sorted in ascending date order. When I view a sub group, the macros are sorted in descending date order (at the moment). If I right click a macro in this subgroup, left click on "Edit Script" then pick the "X" to close the editor, my group view is now sorted in ascending date order. In other words, the sort toggles back and forth between ascending and descending date order as I open and close the script editor. I've never seen this before.
As I recall, changing the sort in one group changed the sort in all groups.
Hopefully this is helpful,
Dick

Could it be related to the macro not having been opened in that version of MS?
My example above was a sample macro, so forget that. I tried it with a macro of mine that had almost certainly not been opened in 8 and the date/time changed. I closed MS and some while later restarted MS, opened/closed that same macro and the date/time didn't change.
I made this test twice with different macros and got the same result, open/close after the first time did not change the date/time.
This was XP Pro.

I had noticed this same effect but jumped to a different conclusion than Me_again. I assumed that the macros only update if the date is new.
I'm at home now so I can't confirm this, but I'm fairly certain that I had files that updated on the 12th. I tested the effect using the same ones on the 13th and they did update again. Me_again, could you try opening a macro on the 14th or later that was opened on the 13th and see if it updates? If not, unless this is resolved before then, I'll try this on Monday morning.
=======================================
Has anyone else experienced the other problem I mentioned?
Following jpuziano's lead.
- Fire up Macro Scheduler
- right click on systray icon, left click on Show
- left click on any group except "All Macros"
- left click on the Last Modified header to sort the macro list by date (ascending or descending)
- right click on a macro, left click on "Edit Script"
- just "look" at macro, nothing else, click "X" to close edit window
- now, macro list in main window is sorted opposite the way "last modified" column was sorted before the editor was opened.
Thanks For listening and thanks for helping,
Dick
