Contributions for Online Manual Needed

Post by Marcus Tettmar » Fri Feb 01, 2013 7:17 am

If you've seen my blog you'll know there's a new online manual system:
http://www.mjtnet.com/manual/

This includes a comments system so that we can post more examples and tips on function pages and other topics.

Please take a look and if you have anything to contribute please go ahead and post something.

Thanks Marcus,

This looks good, allows extra comments for things like a dialog with images & creating a transparent BMP for use within the dialog.

Very nice addition! I posted two examples in the MouseMove section.

Interesting... I just looked for those examples and they are not there... and not only that, the MouseMove topic itself is blank for me here on IE8 however...

...I click on MouseMoveRel and it shows up... that entry is displaying fine.

Another observation, I manually constructed the following URL and tried it to see if it would work better:

http://www.mjtnet.com/manual/index.html?mousemove.htm

It didn't... however again I could click on the MouseMoveRel link and it again worked fine and... I notice that clicking the the MouseMoveRel link DID NOT change the url displayed at the top... all done "in page" I guess.

Edit: I just tried again using Chrome and it works perfectly! I can see the MouseMove examples and everything! I hope I don't have to abandon IE8 to be able to see these pages because IE8 is our default browser at work.

Thanks for doing whatever you can to get this working for IE8 users too Marcus... I know cross-browser issues can be a huge pain...

I can't replicate the problem. I've tried it on IE8 on 2 XP boxes. Standard installs. One is a fresh XP install with all the latest updates.

Anyone else here with IE8 seeing problems loading the pages at http://www.mjtnet.com/manual/ ?

I have the same problem as JP in Windows 7 and IE 8. It Displays fine in Chrome. I'm in the process of upgrading to IE 9, will let you know what happens.

It is supposed to be compatible with IE8 and above (it is generated by Help & Manual 6) and I tested under IE8 on XP, IE9 on Vista and Win7 and IE10 on Win8 and had no problems.

However I have emailed them and explained that some customers are seeing problems. Maybe they have some ideas.

Thanks Rain, good to know I'm not the only one having a less than ideal experience using IE8 :D

IE8 is our current company "standard" so until we upgrade (and these things take a long time and a lot of testing) I'll be staying at IE8.

Its not so bad I guess... not so long ago we were all at IE6... Now that was a less than ideal browsing experience!

Sure... it looks great in Chrome and probably Firefox as well... however there are a lot of folks still using IE8 out there.

The following article says 27% and while that stat may be getting old... I bet the percentage is much higher within larger companies.

Yes, yes, I know. I am not choosing to ignore IE8 and it is SUPPOSED to work in IE8 and MY tests in IE8 have been fine. I do not want to shun IE8 users - they represent around 30% of traffic. I need to try and replicate the issue, find out what is causing it and fix it.

And of course I know that... no jeering intended.

I just sent an email to "support AT mjtnet.com" per your Support page on your website.

Subject of the email is: Concerning problems viewing online Help using IE8

It has screenshots of all my IE8 settings... and maybe it will help you or someone replicate the problem.

Take care
