Working from home?

Post by Marcus Tettmar » Mon Mar 16, 2020 1:29 pm

With the current Covid-19 situation many companies are moving to a remote working set up with employees working from home. Many already have. Wondering how many of us here are working from home already or are planning to?

Ok, have added that option though to be fair the question was 'are you working from home *because* of the pandemic?' ;-)

Oh I didn't realise I'd lose the existing votes after editing it! Think there was only one anyway. So let's leave as is but please continue the discussion :-)

We are making the option available for a few.

We are a manufacturing facility and the machines are not mobile. If the time comes that an employee shows any symptoms, the responsible thing for that employee is to stay home. Shop floor employees will have no option to work from home. Certain "key" employees will be given the opportunity to work from home assuming we can keep the plant running.

I will be able to work from home.

Even working from home, though a wise precaution, does not in itself eliminate the possibility of transmission of this virus. Wear protective clothing when you have to leave your home whether there are other people about or not. I've heard various amounts of time the virus can survive on a cold smooth surface with the shortest being 4 hours and the longest being 9 days. Regardless, it only has to survive long enough for you to touch it then later brush a loose eyelash from your eye thus implanting the virus into your system.

Everyone please take necessary precautions to protect yourselves, your family and friends. If we don't take this seriously, some of us will not survive.

I am just north of Orlando. The last of our department of about 40 just made the transition to home today. I had to make a run to BestBuy to pick up a 50 foot ethernet cable because I couldn't get a strong enough wifi signal in the back office. The networking supplies were cleaned out... got the last cord in the store. Another customer saw it in my hand and got pretty worked up. I asked him if he was planning on fighting me for it :D

Small business (11 coworkers) from Russia reporting.
We're all working from home already since day 1 of our company, we wouldn't have noticed the pandemic if it wasn't in the news
