MS 7.1.7 pro not "opening"

Post by Dorian (MJT support) » Tue Dec 17, 2002 8:21 pm

When I double click on the Ms icon in my systray it no longer opens MS. Instead, it just adds an MS item to my task bar, which goes away when i click on it.

this means I can't get my list of shortcut keys because I can never view the macro list, and the only way I can edit a macro is by editing the .scp file in notepad.

I am using Win ME, and this only just started happening a couple of days ago.

Any ideas?

Horoscopes2000,

Are yours a registered version?

Hi, yes, it's the fully registered pro version with the exe compiler.

Hi Horoscopes2000,

1. I'm not faimilar with Windows ME.
2. Is the latest version supposed to be 7.1.12?
3. Please check whether msched.exe (4,124K) process/task is running.
4. Are you running any antivirus software?
5. Maybe you have to un-install your MS and remove all MS entries in the Windows registry. Then, re-install it again.

Good luck.

Hi Horoscopes2000,

It sounds like someone is stealing the contents in your keyboard buffer. That's usually a sign of spyware/virus attack. Please verify immediately.

Good luck.

Uh Oh, what makes you think that? I don't have an Av running currently, but as far as I know I'm not infected. How would I check for spyware? Does Norton AV catch it?

Hi Horoscopes2000 ,

Let's go back to your originally posted message.
1. Can you create a new script?
2. Can you assign a hotkey to the newly created script?
3. Can you run it by pressing Ctrl+R and its assigned hotkey?

No, NAV can detect neither adware nor spyware.

Cheers,

Hi Armstrong.

The answer is no to all those three questions. I can only edit the existing ones in notepad, and run existing ones using the hotkeys.

I just looked at my Zonealarm firewall logs to see what's been connecting, and there's something called "distributed COM services", which I am just about to investigate. It seems to have been blocked though.

Oh, seems "distributed com services" is a legitimate microsoft prog.

Hi Horoscopes2000,

Apparently, ZoneAlarm is quite problematic. Please browse:

hi Armstrong,

That's peculiar. I have been using ZL for a couple of years and can't say I've had any problems. Perhaps I have just been lucky.

Hi Horoscopes2000,

Sometimes comments are biased. Just read between lines with caution.
Nonetheless, I hope you can recover your MS soon.

Problem solved. Thanks for your support

This was one of those "I cured it but I don't have a clue how or why" type problems I am sure we're all familiar with.

Just in case anyone has a similar problem, this is what I did.

1. Shut down Macro Scheduler.
2. Made a copy of the MJT folder in program files
3. Uninstalled MS using add or remove progs in control panel.
4. Downloaded and installed the latest macro sched
5. Renamed the new MJT folder to "MJT new"
6. Renamed my old MJT folder to MJT Net Ltd

So i uninstalled, reinstalled, then overwrote the new one with my old one, and everything is fine now. All my macro's are visible and work just fine.

Many thanks for your help.

I'm excited to learn you've healed your MS. The un-install and re-insall trick works 98% of the time. The 2% is caused the purposeful manipulation of Windows registry.

At least other MS users will benefit from your experience. Thanks.
